UVA Library spaces are open to the public, and we welcome visitors of all kinds!
Self-guided Library tours
Visitors are welcome in Library spaces at any time during hours of operation. The Library offers a few resources to help you along the way:
- Choosing where to visit? See all hours and locations, and maps of where each is located. The UVA Library has six locations on central Grounds.
- For each location, an interactive map can show what’s inside, including study spaces and major features.
- Interested in a self-guided tour of Shannon Library, opened in 2024 after a massive renovation?
- The Shannon Library self-guided tour leads you through the building, starting on whichever floor you'd like.
- Or, you can see a video tour of Shannon Library on YouTube.
- Try the Green Building Tour (PDF)— Shannon Library is a LEED Gold-certified building, promoting excellence in energy efficiency and sustainability. This tour is in-person: either use the PDF or pick up a Green Building Tour guide at one of the Service & Information Desks. The tour will guide you through stops featuring panels describing the building's sustainability features.
- Have a question? Try Ask a Librarian web chat, or stop by the Service & Information Desks (available in all locations) when you visit.
Request a tour guide
Visitors can request guided tours ahead of time, if you’d like to have a tour guide during your visit. Tours are conducted by Library staff. Note that some tours are limited to certain days and times. Learn more and request a guided tour.
